Student Identification & CalNet
CalNet ID
Your CalNet ID is your username as a UC Berkeley student.
Logging in with your CalNet ID and passphrase allows you to access campus applications and services. If you already have a CalNet ID but cannot log in, reset your passphrase using the self-service passphrase reset tool.
New undergraduate admits will be provided with a link in CalCentral as part of their admissions process.
All other students (listed below) can find a link to create a CalNet account on CalNet For Me:
- New graduate
- Berkeley Summer Sessions
- Concurrent enrollment students
- CCES students
NOTE: Berkeley Extension students (with the exception of Fall Program for Freshmen undergraduates) are not eligible for CalNet IDs.
Student ID
Your student ID is located on the CalCentral profile page. Click on your name in the top right corner. Select “Profile” to view your assigned ten-digit student ID number.
Legal Name and Preferred Name
UC Berkeley recognizes that some students prefer to use first names other than their legal names to identify themselves. As long as the use of this preferred name is not for the purposes of misrepresentation, the University acknowledges that a “preferred name” may be used where possible on certain University records. It is different than your legal name, which will still be used for financial aid, diplomas, transcripts, payroll documents, and other documents.
Therefore, students may designate a preferred name to be used when possible in the course of University business and education.
You can find out more about how to petition to change your legal name and the use of a Preferred Name here.
CalCentral & SIS
CalCentral brings together student data into a personalized, mobile-friendly dashboard and digital assistant, drawing from dozens of campus sources. Students, instructors, and staff can check their campus email, calendar, bCourses, Course Capture, and more from directly within CalCentral.
Throughout the year, CalCentral is where you will review, receive messages, and take action on your student billing account, financial aid, enrollment, grades, records, and advising. Use your CalNet authentication to log in at CalCentral.
